Chapter Philanthropy

Sigma Kappa has four major philanthropies: Gerontology/Alzheimer’s Research, Inherit the Earth, the Maine Sea Coast Mission, and the Sigma Kappa Foundation.

Gerontology & Alzheimer's Research
While our chapter participates in all four of the Sigma Kappa philanthropies, Gerontology & Alzheimer’s Research is our biggest. Every year, our chapter participates in our local Walk to End Alzheimer's event every fall. Our sisters spend months leading up to the event fundraising for Alzheimer's research to help those diagnosed or affected by the disease and to help fund the research needed to one day defeat the disease. Further, each of our members volunteers at Blakey Hall, a local assisted living and retirement community. At Blakey Hall, sisters spend their time with and provide their help to those diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer's. This hands-on service allows our sisters to directly connect with our philanthropy and create their own personal impact on the cause. Additionally, our chapter hosts the Kick in the Grass soccer tournament every fall to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's research.

The Sigma Kappa Foundation
The Sigma Kappa Foundation is incredibly important to every Sigma Kappa chapter. This foundation is the financial backbone of Sigma Kappa and is crucial to the growth and success of the sorority. The mission of the Sigma Kappa Foundation is to create and fund leadership, scholarship and philanthropic initiatives that reflect the values and spirit of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Every March, we host a NCAA March Madness Bracket were all the proceeds go to The Sigma Kappa Foundation.

Inherit the Earth
Inherit the Earth is Sigma Kappa's philanthropy for improving and protecting our planet. This initiative supports and promotes positive habits to keep our local community and world healthy. On campus, our chapter partners with the Office of Sustainability for the annual Earth Week to spread awareness on and encourage sustainable practices. These practices include reducing or cleaning litter, making smarter choices when it comes to waste and harmful resources, and switching to reusable product.

The Maine Seacoast Mission
The Maine Seacoast Mission was Sigma Kappa's first philanthropy, chosen at the 1918 convention. Every year, donations and letters are sent to the Maine Sea Coast Mission to support their initiative in building and strengthening communities in Maine. This philanthropy is incredibly important to the Sigma Kappa Sorority because the sorority was founded at a college in Maine not far from the coast. Partnering with the Maine Seacoast Mission has allowed Sigma Kappa chapters across the country to give back to and show appreciation for the place and the communities that fostered our sisterhood.
