The Kappa Zeta chapter of Sigma Kappa participates in three different philanthropies: Gerontology/Alzheimer’s Research, Inherit the Earth, and the Maine Sea Coast Mission. The chapter’s main philanthropy is Gerontology & Alzheimer’s Research. Throughout the year, our chapter participates in weekly and monthly community service events at two different retirement communities. Furthermore, the chapter holds multiple philanthropy events throughout the year to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. In the spring, the annual cupcake bar is held, selling cupcakes to the Elon University student body, faculty, staff, and community. In the fall, the Ultraviolet Campaign includes the Fall Festival (a festival complete with fall foods and loads of fun), Kick in the Grass (a soccer tournament), and the Dessert Bar. The whole chapter also participates in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s held in our local town of Burlington. For Inherit the Earth, Sigma Kappa partners and volunteers with the Office of Sustainability on campus during the annual Earth Week, spreading awareness and sustainable practices. Lastly, the chapter donates supplies and writes letters to the Maine Sea Coast Mission. Philanthropy plays a large role in the Kappa Zeta chapter. Our sisters love to give back to the community and to raise money for all of our philanthropies.
